Sketch Interlude:

Amid all the moping, I do a little bit of drawing.

I hope to do less moping and more drawing.

I still struggle trying to find something that is truly mine. I figure, anything that can be taken away is not something you really possess.

Beautiful lines. I'm also reminded that I need to do more animals.

wiked man!!! keep em going...

You have some beautiful sketches on your blog. Very lively line quality, by the way!

I envy those lines. And trust me Margaret, you do own it. You are simply convincing yourself you aren't good enough. I struggle with it everyday. Our minds are our own worst enemies.

"Our minds are our own worst enemies."

Only if you don't know how to use it.

I looooove the dogs margaret :D such personality!

"Only if you don't know how to use it."

Obviously we all know how to use our minds in the artist sense. What I meant was, emotionally, we become our own worst critics and defeat ourselves emotionally.

Hey M. Keep up the good work!

every one of your drawings are really good, each one is really yours, put a portfolio together and hawk it around, you really have talent, someone must want illustrators like you.

Anonymous: If you're an artist chances are you'll have no interest in this but, if you still experience strong emotions then you haven't gained any mastery over your mental capacities.

Mike: I don't see any illustrations here, just sketches.

great still as always! ^__^

love the tigers

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I do hope to have more than just sketches up here eventually.

It's perfectly human to have days when you think you aren't good enough or feel down. These thoughts are seperate from the creative process. The two shouldn't get confused. Sometimes we develop these feelings because they are a sign of insecurities, which is something everyone has. I have enough control over my emotions that it has allowed me to pursue my medium and disregard comments that I couldn't make it this far. I take what people tell me and I try to use it to help myself get better. But it isn't the same as feeling like I need to work on my skills. That's instilled in all of us. And there's no need to judge anyone for it.

Negative feelings about oneself may be separate from the creative process but they obviously have an effect on it. And it's also possible that the creative process itself can cause negative feelings and doubt to arise.

I know it passes as human to have periodic episodes of insecurity and self-doubt. But is that really a big deal? It's only "human" because other animals aren't wired to experience such things. Since humans are supposedly thinking creatures then it should be perfectly acceptable to think our way through the things that make us insecure and doubtful and see that they are not based in reality. The problem is that hardly anyone wants to think about such things very intensely. They would rather do the easy thing and embrace their imperfections which is ridiculous to a truly thinking person and not very human at all.

You do beautiful work, M.
